This was really informative! I remember learning some of this in yoga teacher training in the context of polyvagal theory and energy work; it's great that science is catching up to validating what humans intuitively understood for thousands of years.

Thank you, Becky! I agree. Traditional spiritual, health, and medical practices have known this for millennia. Now, science has validated it through many different studies and concludes that yoga, breath work, Tai Chi, acupuncture, bodywork, and many other modalities are the tools to positively impact our nervous systems, regulate our emotions, and improve our health and well-being.

Between 2005 and 2008, I worked in a children's hospital, where I was involved in research utilizing HRV and heart coherence, massage therapy, bodywork, and acupuncture. We published several studies that showed how these modalities not only increased HRV and heart coherence but also improved patient outcomes and satisfaction. I'm really glad to have been introduced to these scientific concepts nearly twenty years ago. They have stayed with me ever since.
